Employment and unemployment rates in regions
In Ireland, regional disparities in unemployment rates are moderate compared to other OECD countries. While in Southern 4.9% of the working force was unemployed in 2022Q2, the share was 3.9% in Northern and Western.
Meanwhile, the difference in employment rate between the regions with the highest (Eastern and Midland) and lowest (Northern and Western) employment rates reached 4 percentage points in 2022.

The first year of COVID-19 on GDP per capita
Between 2019 and 2020, GDP per capita increased in all Irish regions. In 2020, Southern, a region with a GDP per capita 31% above the national average (115 363 vs. 88 015 USD PPP), experienced the largest increase in GDP among Irish regions, of approximately 9%.
